Let’s Start Cleaning!

Let’s face it, even when we are at home where we can find more time with our mobile phones, laptops or TV, we still can’t put a “cleaning” mindset to play. Why? It’s because just thinking of it, already wears us down to the point of not starting at all.

We have heard many times that clutter equals chaos and confusion. But again, it’s very difficult to push ourselves and just “work on it,” right? Well fret not, here are 5 easy hacks for you to start on organizing and/or decluttering that hell-of-a-mess with no delay.

Break down your decluttering plan into smaller tasks

It’s very easy to put in our to-do list, for example, as “clean the kitchen” but are you instantly encouraged to do so?  No. Although the intention is good, it’s not helping in giving a concrete plan of what CAN be accomplished NOW. So instead of writing it that way, why not break it down as “clean the cabinet under the kitchen sink”. Then, the other tasks would be, “clean 2 kitchen drawers” or “clean the fridge”. With these smaller tasks, you’re geared towards eventually tidying the whole space in no time and with each completion, a sense of achievement.

Clean-up flat surfaces immediately when already accumulating clutter

This is very common. Yes, we are working very hard for school assignments, office works, preparing and cooking meals, playing with our children and many more. However, we tend to leave those “spaces of hard work” as once clean to something else each time. To really appreciate the space that we have, why not incorporate a desire to SEE and USE a fresh and enticing space each time. This promotes productivity and focus which are added bonuses to keeping your space tidy.

Keep clothes in your closet as those you would only use daily

The pandemic has truly put things into perspective. Nowadays, it’s no longer practical to buy too many clothes when all we do often is stay at home or even just have a quick run to the grocery store. So, it’s best that we keep only those that are comfortable and/or easy to wear to make use of closet space more efficiently and with exact purpose.

Take screenshots of your mails/receipts and even opt for paperless billing

One of the main components of clutter is paper. They are just everywhere! Sometimes we are too adamant to throw paper things due to always trying to anticipate its importance in the future. To help lessen this agony, why not put your digital items to work. Take screenshots of your mails and/or receipts and categorize them into folders, whether via Google drive, cloud files or external hard drives. This way, you can easily discard all those papers that keep piling up on your desks or eating up drawer spaces.

Always ask “Do I really need this?” before buying things

We all agree that shopping makes us happy. When we reach home, we try to think of a place to keep them until we make use of them. After some time, we forget about them and you know what, we would shop for the same thing again! Why not avoid this scenario altogether? It doesn’t hurt to pause and think on whether what we are buying is a want or a need.  Let’s always aim for the NEED because we know it will always be of good use.

Those are the 5 carefully thought of tips to help you in your decluttering. Do include them in your daily routines for a better and fulfilling lifestyle. Happy cleaning!
