Plantitos and plantitas listen up! So you only have about 80 to 100 square meters and you wanted some dash of green, what plants can be of help?

Succulents – start from here if you do not know if you have a green thumb or not. While there are quite a number of them in the market, you might want to check the amount of water and sunlight they may carry. What is certain though is that you can leave them for days without water and still return brightening your nook. See more succulents here.

Thyme – a good herb and a good houseplant, these perennials fill out cracks and crevices while providing colorful foliage and aromatic odor.

Lavender – is a natural healing herb for aromatherapy and a good tea with a calming effect. This perennial is easy to grow and will survive the changing climate and can survive extreme conditions.

Peppermint – boasts not only its medicinal benefits (you can create tea or eat the leaves directly) but it also gives a refreshing aroma in your space. Also a perennial, this plant thrives with just enough water.

Snake Plant – another perennial, you can leave it for days without water and will still survive. But you also have to be careful with over watering them.

Aloe Vera – We know we mentioned succulents in one entry but aloe vera needs its own place because not only it gives a color in your place, it is very handy with small cuts and burns.

Lucky Bamboo – For those who are putting luck even in their plants, this one will be your bet. This is quite sensitive (just like luck) so when planted in water, replace it every 7 to 10 days; if planted in soil, water it as soon as the topsoil feels dry.

Oxalis – this is a personal favorite of mine. Like the Makahiya (Mimosa Pudica), they are photophilic in nature, meaning its leaves and flowers open and close in the presence of light.

Rubber plant – helps in clearing the air. Another plant that does not need much watering, place them in the area of your small space that needs fresh air circulation.

Air plants – from their name, these plants can grow anywhere and are best in putting them inside terrariums. Once a week, soak them in water for 10 minutes before taking them back.

Split Leaf Philodendrons – are plants that are picture perfect. This thriving plant reflects sunlight with its bright green leaves and will give that gorgeous greenery in your space.

Geraniums – these outdoor plants can actually flourish inside your space giving that hint of color besides the richness of the greens. Place them in pots with proper drainage and place them under the sun for 4 to 6 hours for maximum bloom.

ZZ Plant – Low maintenance plant, this also needs a very minimum sunlight. Water it for 2-3 times a month and will not attract pests or bugs.

Why do I prefer perennials? Because they can thrive for long periods of time. Remember to live and thrive in small spaces, you also need to be energy efficient. Enjoy your plants!
